Mammals of the Royal Gorge Region

Many visitors to the Royal Gorge Region love to talk about their Bighorn Sheep sightings, most commonly spotted in the aptly named Bighorn Sheep Canyon. However, these large-horned mammals who seem to cling to the sides of cliffs are not the most common mammals in the area.

As you hike along Royal Gorge Region’s trails, float the Arkansas River, or fish along a creek, look for one of the most commonly spotted mammals below. If you remain quiet and still, you might have the incredible opportunity to see them interact with their environment.
