Royal Gorge Region Hot Springs

When you want to relax, there is not better place than some hot springs, and the Royal Gorge Region has two! Be sure to check them out during your next Royal Gorge Region getaway.

Desert Reef Hot Springs

Discover the ultimate in relaxation at the newly renovated Desert Reef Hot Springs, a naturally fed hot springs resort five miles east of downtown Florence.

At this family-friendly resort, hot water, discovered during subsurface oil exploration, flows from more than 1,000 feet below the ground. Located on ten acres with gorgeous views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, this clothing-optional hot springs resort has fulfilled its destiny as a truly unique destination for naturalists and those looking to relax and become more in tune with the Earth.

Along with your soak, enjoy a sun deck, greenhouse lounge, and plenty of seating and tables. An outdoor BBQ grill is available for use, as well as a microwave, water cooler, and refrigerator.

The roughly 50-foot wide pool is absolutely amazing to soak in. During the warmer months, Desert Reef regulates the water temperature just below body temp. When it gets a little chilly outside, Desert Reef sets the pool temperature at 100+ degrees Fahrenheit.

Please note, some days at Desert Reef are clothing optional. Check their website for more details.

*Reservations to soak are required and can be made online on the website.

Dakota Hot Springs

Just 15 minutes east of Cañon City, you’ll discover Dakota Hot Springs, which offers a 70-foot long, artesian hot-water fed pool that averages 95-98 degrees Fahrenheit and a smaller, 6-foot round, soaking tub kept hotter at about 108 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tucked in Colorado’s banana belt, this part of Colorado experiences mild weather year-round, making every day the perfect day for a soak.

Dakota Hot Springs’ pool water is continually changed by the natural artesian flow of the well source. The water contains therapeutic salts, soda, and calcium. Most importantly, the water does not contain any measurable sulfur or iron, so it has no sulfurous (rotten egg) smell.

Dakota Hot Springs is not a nudist facility but is comparable to a “swimsuit optional” or “clothing optional” beach. The means you may wear a suit or not, as is comfortable and personally acceptable. Please note that on Tuesdays, swimsuits are required.

Bring food and enjoy it under the sun deck. There are BBQ grills available for guest use. The closest town with lodging is Penrose and Cañon City is close by. There are campsites at Dakota Hot Springs. RVs and tents are welcome, but there are no hook-ups.
